SMART CITY
CONCEPT
The Marikana project is a response to high population growth (largely a result of mining operations) and the urgent need for affordable housing. Over the last 15 years less than 600 formal new houses were built in Marikana.
ALSA, the Rustenburg Local Municipality, and major mining companies developed a spatial development framework that anticipates future mine-related growth as well as allowing Marikana to maximize its locational advantages adjacent to Rustenburg in their community. The SDF provides the framework for the upgrading of the existing infrastructure.
Project start date December 2024.
Marikana CBD, the creation of a light industrial area, and the development of approximately houses & related social amenities within the next 10-15years.
